• Wykład “Ucząc się od natury: Biomimetyka” – dr Krzysztof Pitala

This Wednesday, we invite you to a lecture by Mr. Krzysztof Pitala: “Learning from nature: Biomimetics.” The lecture will be conducted in English.

There are many wonders in nature, all around us, that can amaze, astonish or even scare us. Nature had millennia to optimize, improve and try different solutions, which we can encounter today. Biomimetics is a scientific discipline that studies nature in order to utilise those ideas in solving human problems.

Krzysztof Pitala – He is a graduate of master’s studies in technical physics on Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science on AGH in Kraków, where he also completed his doctoral studies. During his research he focused on preparing nanostructures made out of iron oxides and measuring their magnetic and structural properties. The measurements were performed in Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology on AGH as well as at european synchrotrons such as Soleil and ESRF in France and PSI in Switzerland. After his PhD he joined a team in National Synchrotron Radiation Centre Solaris in Kraków, where he is responsible for research equipment on PIRX beamline. Since early childhood he has been absorbed and fascinated by fauna and flora, which – combined with imagination and his love for fantasy found expression in his drawings and later in scientific curiosity. His interests involve nature and patterns present in material world, whose properties arise from underlying structures invisible to human’s senses, but accessible through specialised measurement techniques, including synchrotron methods. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, mountain hiking and board games.

Lecture, Wednesday, 8:00 AM, Chapter hall (Sala Kapitulna)
